Rinpoche's Birth Conditions
Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche the Third was born on July 6, 1961 in Bhutan, and is considered by the Tibetans as an emanation of Vimalamitra, King Trisong Detsen and the Bodhisattva Manjushri. His grandfather was the late Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche, his father is Kyabje Dungsay Thinley Norbu Rinpoche and his mother was the late Jamyang Choeden. His maternal grandfather was the late Lobpon Sonam Zangpo, a great practitioner of the Drukpa Kagyu Lineage in Bhutan.

Rinpoche was first recogized by His Holiness Sakya Trizin as the incarnation of Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro, and gave him the name of Jamyang Thupten Chokyi Gyatso (Khyentse Norbu). This was further confirmed by His Holiness Karmapa, and His Holiness Dagchen Rinpoche of the Sakya Phuntsog Phodrang. Furthermore, Rinpoche was given the Dharma Robe by His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, and was enthroned in Bhutan by His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche in 1968.
